Resident Blogs

Want to know what really goes on aboard our ship? Obviously this site is a start, but there are other options too, including some who have time to post more often. This page lists the blogs & Youtube channels of actual cabin owners.

Seriously, you don’t get reliable information from people who aren’t here, especially the anonymous ones. If you are seriously considering a lifestyle like this, you want info from people who are here and can give you a real flavor of what it’s like.

I have chosen to only list those who have skin in the game, demonstrated by purchasing cabins, and not renters. That doesn’t mean renters can’t possibly have useful information, but I had to draw a line somewhere, so I chose those who are here for the long run.

If you’re like me, you have a preferred way to absorb information. I’m a reader, others prefer videos, some want podcasts. I’m not aware of any podcasts yet, but I’ll list them if I find them.

Written Blogs

You won’t necessarily want to follow all of these sources, but skip around and see what resonates with you.

  • The OG, of course: Residential Cruising (you’re soaking in it), by Kit and Randy Cassingham. We are working onboard as we slowly go around the world.
  • Ric’s Pics by Ric Namikas, Ph.D (clinical audiology). Ric is a spectacular amateur photographer as well as a writer, so this is an amazingly well-illustrated view of our life, both onboard and ashore.
  • Oceanview by Basia Kruszewska, Ph.D (microbiology). Basia has a particular skill with summarizing information.
  • The Villa Vie Odyssey Blog by Andy Garrison. Andy is a retired actor, among other professions, who most recently lived for several years in Namibia. He clearly has a thoughtful global outlook.
  • Odyssey Global Explorers by Chris Stotts is a community site (including wannabes), not really a blog.

Youtube Video Channels

Again, see which of these you resonate with, click Subscribe on those, and check in every few days to see what’s new.

  • MidLife Cruising by Steve & Angela Theriac. This is probably the most active of the channels, followed by the next one.
  • DC Hidden Gems by Michael and Chris. These gents have been doing destination videos about Washington DC for a dozen years. But the channel has pivoted as they have: they’re neighbors just down the hall from us on the Odyssey, and you’ll definitely learn a lot about the ship from them.
  • The Kiwi Odyssey by Mark and Katrina Howard: we are decidedly not all Americans here!
  • Living Life on a Cruise by Johan Bodin & Lanette Canen.
  • Geeks On Tour by Chris and Jim Guld isn’t fully about living onboard; they are in the process of moving from full-time RV to shipboard, and mostly make videos about getting better use of your phone. (Not onboard yet but confirmed purchasers so you can follow their progress.)

More, I’m sure, to come….
